Sun Exposure: Baby in Danger!

Baby’s skin is still immature and fragile, sensitive to sunburns that can quickly become dangerous and painful for them. Therefore, until they are 1 year old, avoid direct contact with the sun’s rays. If you cannot avoid it, reduce risks by taking certain precautions…

1) Dress your child from head to toe!
Long-sleeve T-shirt, small cotton pants, wide-brimmed hat… Don’t be afraid to cover them, it’s for their safety! And after each swim, do not leave them in wet clothes; change them to keep them dry!

2) Apply a high SPF sunscreen!
Every time you expose them to the sun, and every two hours, cover all uncovered parts of their body with a high-protection sunscreen or a sun protection spray specially for toddlers, with a minimum SPF of 25. Reapply after each swim.

3) Buy them a good pair of sunglasses!
A child’s eyes are still very fragile, and UVA and UVB rays are very aggressive. Get them a good pair of sunglasses and put them on every time they are exposed to the sun.

4) Avoid the hours when the sun is strongest!
Between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m., the sun is at its zenith, shining very strongly, too strongly for the extremely delicate skin of babies. Prefer going out with them in the morning or late afternoon when the sun is less intense. Even then, cover and protect them with a parasol or umbrella.

5) Make sure they drink regularly!
Children, especially very young ones, can dehydrate very quickly… When exposed to the sun, make them drink as often as possible to prevent any accidents.

Remember: any sun exposure for babies carries risks… That is why it is essential not to take these precautions lightly.
