Cosmetic Packaging: Ensuring Optimal Preservation
Whether in large family-size bottles or small jars, skincare products all have their own specific cosmetic packaging. All cosmetics have a limited usage period, indicated on the box with a symbol of an open jar and the number of months of use after opening.
Whether in large family-size bottles or small jars, skincare products all have their own specific cosmetic packaging. All cosmetics have a limited usage period, indicated on the box with a symbol of an open jar and the number of months of use after opening.
When this period is exceeded, the active ingredients in the product decrease and the product may no longer be stable, causing the aqueous and oily phases to separate. This is why it is essential to pay attention to expiration dates to avoid skin allergies.
The shelf life of cosmetic products
The shelf life of beauty products varies depending on their texture and composition. Day or night creams generally last for 10 months. Foundation can be kept for between 6 and 8 months.
Compact powder and concealer can be kept for a year. Loose powder can be used for up to 3 years.
Mascara is the makeup product with the shortest shelf life, between 3 and 6 months, due to the risk of conjunctivitis from the brush depositing product on the lashes. Nail polish lasts about 18 months before becoming thick.
What packaging for a skincare product?
Skincare creams come in tubes or jars. Tubes with a pump dispenser are the most hygienic system. That’s why we offer most of our skincare products with a pump, for reasons of economy and cleanliness.
Tubes without pumps and jars should be cleaned regularly: excess product on the edges can oxidize and prematurely affect the quality of the product.
Should you keep your cosmetics in the refrigerator to extend their shelf life? Storing skincare products in the fridge has no effect on their expiration date. However, they can be more effective with a cooling effect, especially for eye contour creams and creams for heavy legs.
