Natural Cosmetic Labels: Which Are the Most Common?
Among natural cosmetics, there are a large number of labels to certify the origin, composition, and absence of chemical substances (or their presence at a very low level). When choosing a natural cosmetic product, it is not always easy to know what the label means.

Labels reserved for organic cosmetics
With a strict standard requiring at least 95% of ingredients to be of natural origin, Ecocert offers two labels that should not be confused. The Organic Cosmetic label is awarded to products with at least 95% of the plant-based ingredients coming from organic farming. The Ecological Cosmetic label is given to products with 50% of plant-based ingredients from organic farming.
The European Organic label, symbolized by stars forming a leaf, follows less strict guidelines than our French AB (organic farming) label.
Nature & Progrès is a label for organic cosmetics and soap, awarded based on strict criteria that must be met in terms of animal and plant production, as well as product processing.
Labels for natural care products from different types of agriculture
Created by a German association, the BDIH label excludes all cosmetics whose raw materials come from petrochemicals, animal substances, colorants, synthetic fragrances, as well as non-AB certified vegetable oils and essential oils. The products must comply with the "Controlled Natural Cosmetics" guidelines.
Demeter is a certification label that ensures the products used in the manufacturing of care products come from biodynamic agriculture. This type of agriculture does not deplete soil resources and respects the local environment.
Reserved for cosmetics, the Nat label requires at least 95% of ingredients to be of natural origin. The packaging must list all chemical components precisely. Traceability and environmental respect are also criteria taken into account.
Intended for vegans, the Vegan label is awarded to products made exclusively from plants, with no substances of animal origin.
