The action of antioxidants on the skin
Antioxidants play an important role in stopping the effects of free radicals on the skin. What are free radicals? They are molecules that oxidize the epidermis and cause oxidative stress. The causes are many: sun (UVA and UVB), smoking, stress, poor diet, pollution, and even artificial lights.
The secret for an antioxidant treatment to work is twice-daily application. Day cream acts as a barrier against daily attacks, while night cream regenerates the epidermis and helps with cell renewal. Vitamin C is a powerful active ingredient that stimulates collagen production, which decreases with age. The skin looks younger and more radiant.
A diet rich in antioxidants as a complement
While beauty comes from external care, it is essential to increase your antioxidant intake through food.
On your plate, aim for a wide variety: beetroot, red pepper, garlic, red cabbage, carrot, with an extra dose of vitamin C. Green vegetables like artichoke, avocado, broccoli, lamb’s lettuce, watercress, and kale add color to your meals while providing plenty of antioxidants.
In autumn and winter, turn to grapes, apples, oranges, lemons, and prunes. In spring and summer, enjoy red fruits, plums, melon, or tomatoes.
Cocoa is rich in antioxidants. Choose dark chocolate with a high cocoa content. For snacks, nothing beats nuts (almonds or walnuts). Tea and coffee also provide antioxidants.
