What care for a 10-month-old baby?

After work, coming back from daycare or the childminder, a good bath is a must before a good night's sleep. Some parents prefer to give the bath before dinner, to help the child’s digestion, while others prefer to bathe the child after the meal, as the child gets so dirty that it’s unthinkable to put them to bed in that state. The bath can be given before or after, depending on your personal routine.

A daily bath to share a special moment with your baby
The child bathes in water at 37°C to avoid thermal shock or burns. It is essential to have a non-slip mat at the bottom of the tub to prevent slipping. The cleansing gel should be applied to a wet washcloth and lathered with water.

Take your time and act gently. Rinse with bath water, either using a cup or the showerhead set to minimum, so as not to frighten the child.

Guaranteed relaxation with baby massage
More and more parents are taking the plunge and trying baby massage to help their child relax. Massage techniques can be learned in a workshop or from a book. It is important not to insist on the spine!

Which massage oil should you choose? Opt for a vegetable oil rather than a mineral oil, which tends to clog baby’s pores. Choose one that is cold-pressed and organic if possible. Store it away from light and heat sources. You can use oils you cook with, such as sunflower, olive, or grape seed oil. Be aware that these oils have distinctive smells, and do not add essential oils for the care of a 10-month-old baby. Essential oils are only recommended from age 3, and only with a very high dilution rate.

You can also use sesame oil, jojoba oil (to be mixed with other vegetable oils), or calendula oil. Be careful: in older childcare books, sweet almond oil is often recommended. Even though it has proven itself as a massage oil, it can cause allergies. It is therefore advisable to choose another vegetable oil.
