Baby hair: What solutions are there for lice?

Lice are a real scourge for little ones. Through contact with other children, at daycare, with family, or at the childminder’s, they can catch them from a very young age. The signs are very easy to spot: itching of the scalp and the presence of nits, which are small eggs close to the hair root. There are ways to prevent lice and solutions to get rid of them.

How can you avoid catching lice?

Lice are small insects that feed on blood. They reproduce very quickly, which often leads to the infestation of all family members. Contrary to popular belief, lice do not jump, but crawl. It is therefore close contact with someone who has lice that causes “contamination.”

It is important that each child has their own bedding for naptime, with their own pillow and blanket. Avoid at all costs sharing hats, helmets, or hair accessories among little ones.

Preventive lotion is ideal for repelling lice. For babies, simply spray once on the hair and once on the fine-toothed comb. Made with essential oils, this type of product often has a strong smell, but is effective.

How do you get rid of lice?

Choose a shampoo combined with an anti-lice lotion to eradicate these little pests. The treatment should be done daily. Use products suitable for children. A health alert was recently issued because some parents were using veterinary products intended for animals, which are too strong for children’s hair.

Buy an ultra-fine comb to catch the nits that cling to the hair. Be sure to clean it thoroughly after each use. Wash bedding at 90°C if possible for proper disinfection, as well as hats, scarves, and comforters.
