Baby hygiene: what care should you get?

Baby hygiene should be a moment of bonding between parents and baby. While the bath allows you to wash your child, it is essential for relaxing and soothing them. The bath can be given a few hours after birth at the maternity ward.

Parents are often apprehensive about giving the bath without the support of childcare assistants. The key is to have everything within reach to ensure the bath is done safely. A baby bathtub is essential and practical for bathing and keeping the water at the right temperature.

Cleansing gel for the bath

How does a baby bath go? The child should be washed with a cleansing gel, without soap or fragrance. The parent soaps the child from the cleanest to the dirtiest areas.

On a soft washcloth, just put a little body and hair cleanser. Start with the head, arms, chest, and legs. Finish with the bottom. Then, simply immerse the child in the water. To check the water temperature, dip your elbow in the water. This area of the body is sensitive to temperature differences.

The cleansing gel should have a natural composition. Choose a pump bottle, which makes it easy to dispense the product into your hand or onto the washcloth without letting go of the baby. If the child has dry skin, cosmetics with oat or cold cream can provide intense hydration for the skin.

For facial cleansing, no product is required. Just a little saline solution on a cotton pad is enough to clean the nose, ears, and eyes.

Cleansing milk

Diaper changes should be done 6 to 8 times a day. At home, a little soap and water are enough to remove traces of urine and stool. The bottom should be cleaned thoroughly to prevent the spread of germs. For girls, always clean from front to back to avoid the risk of urinary tract infections.

Drying should be done gently, without rubbing. Moisture and urine maceration are the main causes of diaper rash, which is treated with a thick layer of soothing ointment before putting the diaper back on.

For on-the-go use, cleansing milk allows you to keep the baby's bottom perfectly clean with just a swipe of cotton. No rinsing needed, it leaves the skin clean and lightly scented. Make sure this cosmetic care contains neither parabens nor phenoxyethanol, which could be endocrine disruptors.
