How to care for your baby’s hair?

At birth, some babies already have a beautiful mane, while others don’t have a single hair on their heads. Since babies sweat a lot, a shampoo is necessary with every bath. Parents are often afraid to insist on washing the scalp, as the fontanelles can be soft. However, they are not as fragile as they seem. Just a few hours after birth, it is possible to wash the baby’s hair.

Choose a body and hair cleansing gel

Many people opt for a 2-in-1 product that can wash both the body and hair. Convenient, it respects the balance of the sensitive scalp, without making it greasier or drying it out. Hypoallergenic, it should have a clean composition, be paraben-free, and tested under dermatological control.

Should you wash your child’s head, even if they have cradle cap? It is absolutely possible and even recommended. Cradle cap is caused by excess sebum, which forms a crust on the skin. It is important to dry the head by gently patting, without rubbing.

Opt for an ultra-gentle shampoo

If your child has a lot of hair, you can choose a baby shampoo. A tiny amount, diluted with a few drops of water, is enough. Rinsing should be thorough to avoid allergies and itching. This can be tricky if your child refuses to tilt their head back. It’s best to buy a bath visor with a hole in the middle. Like a cap, it protects the eyes from soapy water, for a tear-free shampoo.

The shampoo should be effective at detangling knots without stinging the eyes. Do not use anti-lice shampoos if your child does not have lice. A preventive lotion is enough, with just a few sprays.
