Changing baby before a meal and bottle
Changing your baby before their bottle allows them to take their time waking up gently before starting their bottle. You also avoid handling them on a full stomach, which could make them vomit all the milk they’ve just had. On the other hand, changing them before feeding, when their stomach is empty, might make them cry with hunger throughout the change.
Changing baby after a meal
If your baby wakes up screaming with hunger, you really won’t have time to change them first. Also, many babies have a bowel movement while taking their bottle, or just after. If you change them just before, you risk having to do it all over again once the bottle or feeding is finished!
How to change baby
Whether you change them before or after the meal, you must do it every time and never leave them with a dirty diaper. Take your time, as you need to thoroughly clean their genitals and bottom, and also gently dry their bottom with a towel, paying close attention to the folds of the skin to avoid irritation.
Be careful, whether you place your baby on a changing table or on the bed, you must never leave them alone. Accidents can happen very quickly!
