Which essential products to take in the first aid kit?

Your doctor and pharmacist will help you put together this basic kit. But you must first have the indication and use of each product explained to you.

Products:

  • A preferably non-alcoholic antiseptic to disinfect a wound or insect bite after washing it with water and soap.
  • An antiseptic and healing ointment for both wounds and diaper rash.
  • Single-dose saline solution for cleaning eyes and nose.
  • An antiseptic eye drop if conjunctivitis.
  • A high-protection sunscreen (SPF 50+)
  • A moisturizing cream in case of sunburn or minor burn.
  • A mosquito repellent suitable for their age
  • Rehydration sachets (in case of diarrhea, vomiting, or heatstroke to prevent dehydration: ORS)
  • An Arnica-based gel or homeopathic Arnica pellets for minor bumps.
  • A medication for comfort in case of fever or pain, such as Paracetamol.
  • Their regular treatment if they have one, and vitamin D.

Small equipment:

  • An unbreakable digital thermometer
  • Sterile compresses and adhesive tape, bandages.
  • Round-tipped scissors and tweezers (for splinters), or even a tick remover.
  • Don’t forget: tissues, or even a nasal aspirator for babies.

Don’t forget their health record (or a photocopy), your health insurance card, and an ID. And of course, during the trip, make sure you have everything needed to change them (including dirty diaper bags), feed them, and keep them hydrated.

If you are planning to travel to certain countries, your doctor will also advise you on the necessary medications or products depending on local risks.

It is essential to have a basic first aid kit when traveling.
