The Female Intimate Flora: What You Need to Know
The balance of intimate flora is fragile and difficult to maintain without strict personal hygiene. However, external factors can disrupt the health of the intimate area. Nearly 100% of women experience at least one vaginal yeast infection in their lifetime, but only 5% have infections several times a year.

Nearly 100% of women experience at least one vaginal yeast infection in their lifetime, but only 5% have infections several times a year.
An unbalanced flora can lead to multiple bothersome physical symptoms, such as burning, itching, redness, and inflammation, which can result in genital diseases.
How does a woman’s intimate flora regenerate?
A woman’s intimate areas require gentle cleansing by hand. Many women believe that intimate hygiene should only be practiced during menstruation or at puberty. However, from birth, girls have a bacterial flora in their genital area that needs care.
An imbalance can occur from a very young age due to poor hygiene, taking antibiotics (common in children), or improper rinsing of care products. In very young girls, this can lead to recurrent cystitis.
The vulva requires special attention. Made up of folds, it needs thorough daily cleansing. The vaginal bacterial flora, on the other hand, evolves throughout a woman’s life and self-regulates. From puberty and the onset of menstruation, it is composed of a specific bacterium, Döderlein bacillus (from the same family of bacteria used to make yogurt).
Even though cleansing should be limited to the vulvar area, it is also done in the peri-vaginal area, without going inside the vagina. That’s why our intimate gels contain lactic acid, which prevents the development of microbial flora in the acidic environment of the vagina.
