How to Choose Baby Products?

When it comes to baby cosmetics, there’s no need to use lots of different products! Layering cosmetic products on your baby’s skin won’t protect it any better.

On the contrary, overusing care products can actually make the skin more fragile. Babies need a limited range of natural products for impeccable hygiene, while still caring for their delicate skin.

1. Products tested under dermatological and pharmaceutical supervision

Before being marketed, baby care products undergo testing by independent laboratories. This offers a higher guarantee for better skin tolerance.

2. Care products specifically designed for sensitive skin

Parents should buy cosmetic ranges specially made for babies. Their needs and the required amounts of fats and water are very different from those of adults.

3. Paraben-free cosmetics

Due to its structure, a baby’s skin is much more permeable and acts less as a barrier than an adult’s. Parabens are preservatives that may be toxic to the body and could affect fertility. It’s best to exclude them from baby care products.

4. Hypoallergenic formulas

It’s always possible to have an allergic reaction to a product, but using hypoallergenic care reduces the risk. The formula is free from all allergenic substances.

5. Products without phenoxyethanol

Phenoxyethanol is an antibacterial preservative. It is only allowed up to 1% in care products. Besides being allergenic, causing skin reactions like hives or eczema, it may also carry carcinogenic risks.

6. High-tolerance formulas of natural origin

It’s important to favor natural ingredients like lavender or chamomile, which soothe children’s skin. Tolerance is optimal for little ones.

7. No alcohol in creams

Alcohol dries out the skin. This ingredient is excluded from baby care products. However, be cautious with scented waters, which may contain small amounts.

8. Moisturizing action on the skin

Children tend to have drier skin due to the thinness of their hydrolipidic film. It’s important to apply moisturizing care daily to prevent dehydration.

9. Effective products for gentle cleansing

Even though they should be gentle, products must also be effective. With just one application, they should clean the baby without the need for rubbing and causing irritation.

10. Respect the period after opening

Even though baby products are usually used up quickly, it’s important to respect the period after opening (PAO), indicated by a logo. It shows an open jar with a number inside, representing the number of months the product can be kept. Simply stick a label on the product with the opening date. Once this period is exceeded, it’s best to throw the product away.
