Delicate, the epidermis can suffer from irritations, leading to wounds or eczema. What can be applied directly to damaged skin? Caution is advised. It is crucial to favor natural and gentle products. The skin is weakened and needs to repair itself gradually.

There are many factors that can irritate sensitive skin: an insect bite, a skin allergy, hives, a first-degree burn, the development of a fungus… It is important not to smother the irritation under a thick bandage and to apply the right products.

Nourishing products: the allies of damaged skin

Irritated skin needs both hydration and fatty substances to soothe the epidermis and accelerate skin renewal. For irritations such as redness, severe dryness, chapping, or patches, it is essential to apply a nourishing product in a thick layer several times a day, especially at night, when cell regeneration occurs.

For a burn, applying a poultice is perfect for soothing the skin. Simply soak a compress in vegetable oil and leave it on for 20 minutes.

For an insect bite, there is no need to scratch your skin intensely to the point of irritating it. Scratching only worsens the irritation by spreading the venom over a larger area of skin. A soothing product is necessary to reduce the irritation.

Eczema, hives, or an allergy require a medical consultation. It is important to determine the cause: food, stress… in order to establish a treatment.

How to treat and heal a wound?

A cut or injury should be disinfected quickly. If it is bleeding, of course, a bandage should be applied and changed several times a day. The use of essential oils is strongly discouraged on an open wound, except for rockrose (Cistus ladanifer). Two drops on a wound can stop the bleeding.

During healing, the skin needs hydration to speed up the process. There are natural remedies such as myrrh essential oil (2 drops diluted in 30 ml of vegetable oil) or yarrow essential oil (1 drop diluted in a tablespoon of oil).

On a closed wound, a rich-textured product like a moisturizing lotion or a body oil can help with healing when applied twice daily.
