It’s not easy to make your perfume last from morning to night. Top notes are fleeting and quickly give way to heart notes, but it’s mainly the base notes that make the difference. Perfume can be altered by many factors: skin acidity, perspiration, and the perfume’s composition.
Enhance your perfume’s scent with products from the same range
The higher the concentration of perfume, the longer it will last. Eau de Cologne has a concentration of about 5%. The most common is eau de toilette, around 12%. Luxurious eau de parfum can have a dosage close to 20%. Rarely, perfume extract can have a concentration of up to 40%.
Women often use a shower gel from one brand, a moisturizing lotion from another, and a perfume. This leads to a mix of scents, which is not beneficial for the longevity of the perfume. Brands develop complete ranges around the same fragrance: from shower gel to body lotion, including deodorant.
Touch up during the day
During the day, you can apply a bit more perfume. In the morning, it’s recommended to spray a cloud of perfume in front of you and walk through it for a subtle scent. Throughout the day, a few sprays (neck, ears, and wrists) can be applied using a purse-sized atomizer. These areas help diffuse the scent thanks to good blood circulation.
Should you spray eau de toilette on your hair? Hair absorbs and retains scents, leaving a fragrant trail. However, hair can be dried out by the alcohol in contact with the hair fiber.
You can spray perfume on your clothes. However, be careful: depending on the perfume’s composition, it may stain fabric. Avoid chypre perfumes (bergamot and flowers) as well as woody scents based on patchouli. In fact, these are the scents that degrade the most over time and can develop a sharp smell.
