A baby’s skin is delicate, and at birth, it needs specific care to avoid irritation. It is important to follow a few simple steps with suitable products to avoid harming your baby’s skin. But before starting any care routine, always remember to wash your hands.

Eye care

The eyes are a very delicate part of the face that need special attention to prevent irritation. It is important to thoroughly moisten a sterile pad with saline solution before gently wiping the eyelids and corners of the eye. Remember to have clean hands and to use a new pad for the other eye.

Ear and nose care

Ears should be cleaned daily, but require extreme caution to prevent your baby from developing an ear infection. To do this, make a small wick by rolling a piece of cotton between your fingers and clean only the outer ear. Cotton swabs are not recommended as they can be irritating. For the nose, do the same as for the ears, making sure to use a new piece of cotton for the other nostril.

The umbilical cord

This is an essential step to prevent any infection until it falls off on its own, usually after about a week. Disinfect it every day by soaking a sterile pad with an antiseptic. Then carefully dry it with a clean pad.

Nail care

At birth, nails are fragile and brittle. You should wait at least a month before cutting them for the first time. Use a pair of rounded-tip scissors. Be careful not to cut too short to avoid infections.
