Which sunscreen for a 6-month-old baby?

Baby's skin is delicate, and at 6 months, the sun—despite all its benefits—is not recommended for such a young baby. You must protect them well even if you don't expose them directly, as even a simple swim can cause significant damage. Sunscreen is essential, but which product should you use?

Which sunscreen for a 6-month-old baby?

Baby's skin is delicate, and at 6 months, the sun—despite all its benefits—is not recommended for such a young baby. You must protect them well even if you don't expose them directly, as even a simple swim can cause significant damage. Sunscreen is essential, but which product should you use?

How to choose the right sunscreen?

To choose the right sunscreen for your baby, you need to understand that a 6-month-old does not have the same needs as adults. Their skin cannot protect itself, so it is crucial to provide total protection.

Needless to say, your own sunscreen is forbidden for them. Theirs must protect against UV-A, UV-B, and infrared rays. Choose a waterproof sunscreen, which is more resistant and won't require reapplication after every swim. Despite this recommendation, we strongly advise applying it every 30 minutes at this age!

It is also preferable to choose a pleasant texture that is easy to spread. Since baby's skin is quite fragile, a spray is ideal. To get your baby used to the sun, you can slightly lower the sun protection factor over time, but never go below SPF 40.

Often, parents use the same product for all their children, including the baby. This is a big mistake—choose a 'Special Baby' sunscreen, not a 'Special Child' one, fragrance-free and containing a mineral screen. You will notice, upon application, that a white film remains visible on the skin.

And a few rules of good conduct

It is worth repeating that a child under 3 years old should never be exposed to the sun. We advise against going to the beach during the hottest hours (between noon and 4 pm), even under a parasol! Preferably, your 6-month-old baby should swim wearing a t-shirt, sunglasses, and a hat that covers the neck.
