Applying tanning oil on fair skin: good or bad idea?
When summer arrives, we dream of being well-tanned and looking healthy. So, before the holidays, during the holidays, and even after, many men and women try to maximize their chances of having a sun-kissed complexion. Tanning oil, as we know, is a UV activator. But is tanning oil on fair skin really a good idea? To find out, follow the guide, follow Corine.
Composition and Traditional Uses of Tanning Oil
If tanning oil has this name, it’s not by chance. It was originally intended to grease cows’ udders to make milking easier. Yes, cows also have a few beauty and wellness secrets.
But how did tanning oil end up in the “suncare” section of your favorite store? Quite simply, thanks to a “magnifying effect” that speeds up tanning and enhances its color.
A “side effect” largely due to the composition of this ointment, which was widely used in the 1970s and gradually abandoned since then, but has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years.
At Corine de Farme, we have softened the formula to make it even more pleasant to use. While paraffin and vegetable oils are still the base of tanning oil, it is now enriched with vitamin E, monoi, and ylang-ylang for a guaranteed escape.
Tanning oil: the lack of protection for fair skin
But be careful, if we’re talking about a tanning accelerator here, it’s because tanning oil does not protect against UV rays. Tanning oil on fair skin should therefore be completely avoided if you don’t want to collect sunburns and drastically accelerate the aging of your skin.
Only use it on already very tanned skin or on medium to dark skin, phototypes 5 and 6, because most of the time, they can get by with less sun protection, while still avoiding the times of day when the sun is strongest.
On the other hand, fair to very fair skin – especially phototypes 1 and 2 – should opt for SPF 50 and 50+, which are highly protective for their fragile skin that sometimes should even avoid sun exposure altogether.
In the sun, 3 alternatives to tanning oil
While tanning oil had its moment of glory during the era of very deep, dark, almost brown tans all over the body, it’s now a bit out of fashion, replaced by a softer glow that’s especially less harsh on the skin.
A golden tan that can be achieved by regularly and carefully applying a high-SPF sunscreen. For you and your skin, Corine de Farme has even created a sensitive face and body sunscreen, SPF50+, which must be reapplied regularly to be fully effective.
Broad-spectrum sunscreens are now recommended, and here again, the Corine de Farme sun care range hits the mark with protection adapted against UVA and UVB, designed to effectively counteract skin aging.
Finally, always follow weather recommendations regarding UV indexes and avoid going out during the hottest hours of the day. If in doubt, visit a pharmacy and get advice on the most effective ways to protect your skin in the sun.
