Red spots on baby's face: is it infant atopic dermatitis?
Are red spots appearing on your baby's face, especially on the cheeks and forehead, or even under the ears? Is he scratching, and are small dry vesicles appearing and eventually oozing? It is very likely infant atopic dermatitis! To be sure, you can discuss it with your general practitioner, who, if the diagnosis is confirmed, will probably prescribe a soothing cream or ointment.
Infant atopic dermatitis: some care principles...
If your child has this skin condition called infant atopic dermatitis, at least once, be prepared; there is a good chance that even after treatment, it will reappear in a few weeks or months. So, take the necessary precautions, know the care to be provided, and keep all effective products on hand. There can be many causes for this eczema, making it often very difficult to determine why your child is affected (pollution, allergy...)
1) Prefer a daily lukewarm bath.
Hot water worsens itching, so wash your child in lukewarm water at 36°C. Or prefer a bath every two days (hard water further irritates the skin).
2) Wash baby with a soap or a rich cleansing gel.
Atopic skin is very dry, sensitive, and irritated, so it should be washed with products enriched with emollient agents like a rich cleansing gel.
3) Do not rub, pat instead!
Once out of the bath, do not rub or scrub him with a sponge towel; gently pat him to avoid further skin irritation.
4) Hydrate the skin as much as possible.
After the bath, but also 2 to 3 times a day, properly hydrate your little one's very sensitive skin. Opt for a ultra-nourishing moisturizing cream with vegetable cold cream. This is the secret to restoring your baby's skin!
Apply these care principles during an outbreak of infant atopic dermatitis but also continue once the redness has disappeared; it is the best way to prevent it from reappearing too quickly! And if the eczema spreads further and becomes really bothersome for your baby, consult your doctor who may prescribe a corticosteroid cream.
